We want Saylito to work for everyone who wants to practice, whatever device, screen or way of reading they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we do
- every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus and a “Skip to content” link first;
- text and buttons keep a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1, in the light and the dark theme;
- pages fit a 320-pixel-wide screen with no sideways scrolling, and still work when text is zoomed to 200%;
- buttons, and the links in the header and the footer, are at least 44 pixels tall, for a thumb;
- every result is written in words, never by colour alone, and every sound has its words beside it;
- each page has its own title, one main heading, and its language declared.
How we test it
Before each release, our tests open every page in a browser at a phone’s width (390 and 360 pixels) and a desktop’s (1440), and fail when a page scrolls sideways or a heading, link or label is missing.
What we know does not work yet
- the accent test and the drills score your speech, so they need you to speak into a microphone; the sounds’ explanations and example words can still be read without one;
- the scoring knows US English only, and does not yet score other ways of speaking English.
Tell us what gets in your way
If something on Saylito does not work for you, write to hello@saylito.com with the page and what you use (your phone or computer, your browser, and a screen reader if you use one). We answer within two working days, and fix what we can in the next release.
