About Saylito
Last updated
Saylito is a practice coach for adults who want to be understood in US English. You read short sentences aloud, an AI scores each sound you make, and you see which sounds a listener may miss, with drills to practice them.
- Read six sentencesShort, everyday sentences, read aloud into your phone or computer.
- See each soundAn AI scores every sound in every word against US English.
- Practice threeThe three sounds a listener may miss most, each with a short drill.
For every learner
Saylito works for learners of every first language, in plain English. Spanish speakers get extra tips in Spanish, about the sounds Spanish speakers most often swap. Telling us your first language is optional, and we never guess it from your voice.
How the scoring works
Microsoft Azure’s speech service, an AI, listens to each word you read and scores each sound in it against US English. Our own checks then decide what to show you: a sound is flagged only when its score is clearly low, and when the AI is not sure, we say “not sure” instead of guessing.
Before any score is shown to anyone, the scorer has to pass our own tests: a sentence read with clear mistakes must be caught, and the same sentence read well by a native speaker must pass.
A practice score is an estimate
A practice score comes from a few sentences on one day. It is never a test result, a level or a certificate, and the AI can be wrong. Use it to choose what to practice next.
Be understood
An accent is not a mistake, and everyone has one. Saylito does not try to change who you are or make you sound like anyone else: it shows the few sounds that can make a word hard to catch, so you can be understood the first time.
Practice, not therapy
Practice, not therapy: for a voice or speech problem, see a speech-language pathologist.
Your voice
Your recording is deleted as soon as it is scored, and we never make a voiceprint or use your voice to tell who you are. The privacy policy has the details.
Who runs it
Saylito is a small, independent project. Allison Reed looks after support and reads every message sent to hello@saylito.com. Questions, a score that looks wrong, or an idea: write to us.
